Relevant UK organisations

Please note that the information published on the following web sites refers to the UK Freedom of Information Act 2000, which is slightly different from the Scottish Act which applies to the University of Edinburgh.

JISC supports further and higher education by providing strategic guidance, advice and opportunities to use Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to support teaching, learning, research and administration.  JISC is funded by all UK post-16 and higher education funding councils.

JSIC Legal is a free information service offering legal information to further and higher education relating to the use of information and communications technologies.

The Department for Constitutional Affairs is the government department responsible for the UK Freedom of Information Act.

The Constitution Unit's web site includes pages on freedom of information and data protection.  They also publish a quarterly newsletter called the Freedom of Information Newsletter.

The National Archives is the official archive for England, Wales and the central UK government. It gives detailed advice to government departments and the public sector on information management.
