Introducing Data Protection

Course objectives

An introduction to Data Protection legislation and its implications for the University.  Participants will have opportunities to consider and discuss sample subject access requests, as well as getting hands-on experience examining particular ways in which Data Protection law is relevant to a wide variety of routine University tasks.  The course objectives are:

  • To be aware of the context of the Data Protection act 1998
  • To understand key terms
  • To be aware key provisions and their implications for your work
  • to recognise a subject access request, and know what to do with it
  • to understand offences under the Act

Target audience

All members of staff who handle personal information.
