Introducing Freedom of Information

Course objectives

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act states that anyone from anywhere can write to the University and ask anything, and that the University must reply to such requests for information within 20 working days.  This course introduces the Act and examines its implications for the University, giving participants several opportunities to examine case studies of requests and a chance to formulate practical strategies for their own areas of the University. The course objectives are:

  • To give an overview of the Act and its context
  • To provide an understanding of the Act's three principal requirements
  • To gain practical experience of handling freedom of information request

Please note that this course does not:

Target audience

All members of staff who wish to gain a basic understanding of the legislation.
